NVQ Care - NVQ Level 4 in Children’s Care Learning and Development


Child Care NVQFor senior staff, this NVQ takes 18 months to complete. There are four core units on childcare and five optional units on either childcare or management.
The course comprises of theoretical and practical input as well as observation in the workplace. Assessment is by workplace observations, carrying out practical tasks at work, answering questions and report writing.
Mandatory units:
• Establishing and developing working relationships
• Supporting policies, procedures and practice to safeguard children and ensure their inclusion and well-being
• Supporting programmes for the promotion of children’s development
• Reflecting on, reviewing and developing own practice.

There are nine optional units, of which five must be achieved:
• Developing and implementing operational plans for your area of responsibility
• Obtaining additional finance for the organisation
• Providing leadership in your area of responsibility
• Encouraging innovation in your area of responsibility
• Allocating and monitoring the progress and quality of the work in your area of responsibility
• Ensuring health and safety requirements are met in your area of responsibility
• Providing learning opportunities for colleagues
• Managing finance in your area of responsibility
• Recruiting, selecting and keeping colleagues
