NVQ Care - NVQ Level 3 in Children’s Care Learning and Development
The Level 3 is for experienced nursery workers and classroom assistants; this NVQ shows a solid knowledge base and competency in looking after children. It is the equivalent of the BTEC National Diploma and qualifies an individual to work as a nurse in a nursery or nursery officer and to the ability tosupervise others.
The course comprises of theoretical and practical input as well as observation in the workplace. Assessment is by workplace observations, carrying out practical tasks at work, answering questions and report writing.
Most trainees complete this NVQ within two years.
Mandatory Units
There are five compulsory units:
• Developing and promoting positive relationships
• Developing and maintaining a healthy, safe and secure environment for children
• Promoting children’s development
• Reflecting on and developing practice
• Protecting and promoting children’s rights
And four optional units from a choice of seven:
• Promoting the health and physical development of children
• Planning and implementing curriculum frameworks for early education
• Assessing children’s progress according to curriculum frameworks for early education
• Planning and implementing positive environments for babies and children under 3 years.
• Providing physical care that promotes the health and development of babies and children under three years
• Using information and communication technology to support children’s learning
• Creating environments that promote positive behaviour.
