For Individuals who are beginning to work in the rewarding world of childcare, the Children’s Care Learning and Development NVQ qualifies them to be employed as a nursery nurse or classroom assistant.
You are assessed in 7 areas, six of which are mandatory and comprise of theoretical and practical input as well as observation in the workplace. Assessment is by workplace observations, carrying out practical tasks at work, answering questions and report writing.
This qualification proves that you have demonstrated the skills and knowledge to work and support young children and their families in most aspects of their daily lives. This award will offer you the opportunity for progression and for acknowledgement of your growing skills and knowledge.
The majority of candidates can complete this NVQ Course within 15 months.
Mandatory units
NVQ Level 2 in Children’s Care Learning and Development comprises of six mandatory units:
• Supporting children’s development
• Preparing and maintaining environments to meet children’s needs
• Supporting children’s play and learning
• Helping to keep children safe
• Contributing to positive relationships
• Using support to develop own practice.
And one optional unit from a choice of two:
- Contributing to the effectiveness of teams
- Supporting the development of babies and children under three years.
